Jesus Means Everything

Rio: The City Where Possibility Means Everything. We will see this slogan a great deal over the next several weeks as this is the mantra of the venue hosting the 2016 Olympic Games. I suppose the phrase is meant to incite excitement and the thought of endless adventure as well as success if we could all simply occupy the confines of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Even if I had been to Rio, I would have a different perspective of their marketing tag line. I’m not referring to a location. There is no thought of the Olympics when I think of “everything” being held in any given possibility. Success and adventure are not found in possibilities, but rather realities.

So, Jesus means everything to me. Yes, I will enjoy watching the Olympic competition unfold over the course of the next month. Yes, the fact that thousands of athletes have trained since birth for the opportunity to participate in the Olympics is a massive feat of discipline. Yet, I too would like to be in Rio during August 2016. Yes, I still say “Jesus means Everything!”

In fact, I remember a song being taught to me from the time of my birth that prepares me for the opportunity of serving God and others for a lifetime.  The words say:

Jesus is all the world to me, my life, my joy, my all; He is my strength from day to day, without Him I would fall. When I am sad, to Him I go, no other one can cheer me so; when I am sad, He makes me glad, He’s my friend.

Jesus is all the world to me, I want no better friend; I trust Him now, I’ll trust Him when life’s fleeting days shall end. Beautiful life with such a friend, beautiful life that has no end; eternal life, eternal joy, He’s my friend.
